ALKI News
Statue of Liberty Restoration Fundraising Goal Met!
A big thank you to our wonderful Aki community! In just one week, we reached our $5,000 goal with almost 100 individual donors. It really does take a village and we have the best one!
We’re scheduling repairs to begin in the spring and this support will allow us to lock in bids and space on the contractor’s schedule to get that started in a timely manner. We’ll also keep the fund open through the end of 2026, America’s 250th birthday year, to help replenish the statue’s diminishing annual maintenance fund.
We as a neighborhood group of all volunteers want to thank donors for helping preserve our little Statue of Liberty for generations to come.
Alki Bathhouse Good News
After a long time advocating for community use and programming at the Alki Bathhouse, it is finally getting new life!
We just received the update below from Tom Walsh of Parks and Recreation, who we met with about putting this underused space to work for our neighbors. The Bathhouse has been empty for more than 90% of its available hours. Our continued requests, meetings, and follow-up are finally paying off. Parks is planning four days of programming beginning in January 2027 Monday-Thursdays:
Mondays: Mindfulness and Meditation for adults 50+
Tuesdays: All-levels Yoga
Wednesdays: Tai Chi for adults 50+
Thursdays: All-levels Watercolor
Once schedules and instructors are finalized, Tom will share flyers for distribution in the community.
It’s taken a long time to get this far and this progress gives us cause to keep pushing on reopening the Alki Community Center as well.
